Applying for college can be the most stressful time for students. The paperwork, the essays, the interviews, and then the worst part – the waiting. For those who have done it before, one application alone can make you a veteran. For high school students and working adults who have yet to apply for college, the first time can be the scariest. So what do you need to know about the college application process?

Many colleges now allow students to apply online. This goes for online colleges and on-campus colleges. Applications can vary from school to school. Some require some some simple information while others may require more of the student than just their name, date of birth, and tuition payment. Most traditional on-campus colleges and universities require at least one, if not two essays, and possibly an interview with an alumni or member of the admissions department. Online colleges and universities rarely will require an in-person interview, and an essay may or may not be part of the college application process.

Sure, the lack of an interview seems like it may help shorten the process of being admitted to your college of choice, but it then provides the student with only way to make a good impression - the application. Proper spelling, punctuation and grammar are very important. For hand-written applications, neat presentable handwriting is vital, with few to no words crossed out or covered in correction fluid or correction tape. Whether it’s online or on paper, make sure the application is neat, thorough, and complete.

The final portion of the application process is the most difficult….the waiting. It could take days, weeks, or even months to hear back from the school as to whether or not the application has been accepted. If you are not accepted, do not be discouraged. Continue applying to other schools. Most students tend to submit applications to several schools and then have ability to choose between at least two candidates. There will be a perfect school that will meet you requirements and provide you with the education you desire.

In January 2010, Quinnipiac University President John Lahey announced that the University is in the planning stages of opening up a Medical School. This school will focus on global health and primary care.

Quinnipiac is already no stranger to the world of global health, having previously worked in many developing countries through their own Albert Schweitzer Institute and School of Health Sciences. Putting both of those under one roof as a Medical School will help to bring their mission together and create a more efficient space to educate as well as offer services to the community and the world.

The building of this school will take several years to complete, as are currently looking at completing construction and opening its doors in 2013-2014. Currently Quinnipiac has their School of Health Sciences in their North Haven, CT Campus, while their main campus is only a few miles south in Hamden, CT. The North Haven campus curently houses programs in nursing, physical therapy, physician assistant, radiology assistant, diagnostic imaging and others, with new programs being added in the next year.

The addition of the medical school will join with the schools of law, education, health sciences, College of Arts & Sciences, business and communications. According to the school, only 89 out of 3,600 universities offer both schools of medicine and law, and soon Quinnipiac will join that select group of schools offering more opportunities for students.

Quinnipiac University also noted the possibility of a national healthcare system being implemented in the United States, required more health care professionals to meet the possible future demand, especially in the field of primary care.

While the medical school is still in the process of being constructed, Quinnipiac still offers a group of online degree programs including an online MBA, MBA in Healthcare Management, Master of Science in Interactive Communications, Master of Science in Organizational Leadership, Teacher Leadership, Occupational Therapy, as well as a variety of certificate programs. For more information about what Quinnipiac currently can offer you, click on the link above.
