Central Michigan University plans groundbreaking on new School of Medicine

Monday, March 15, 2010 posted by Carolyn Randolph

Central Michigan announced in early February 2010 that it will be holding a groundbreaking ceremony for their New School of Medicine later in the month. This 60,000 square foot, $24 million building will be an addition to the Health Professions Building already existing on campus and is expected to be completed in early 2012. It will provide students with a state-of-the-art education and high-tech facilities to match the current trends in medical science, particularly focusing on primary care in the northern Michigan region and Upper Peninsula region.

Because this new addition is still in the planning process, as of this blog no academic programs have yet to be established, and it is uncertain as to whether or not they will also provide online programs in the School of Medicine.

Central Michigan University does, however, offer a variety of other online courses and degrees. Currently their course offerings include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Administration
  • Bachelor of Science in Community Development
  • Master of Arts in Educational Technology
  • Master of Business Administration in SAP
  • Master of Business Administration in Value Driven Organization
  • Master of Science in Administration
  • Doctor of Health Administration

Continuing Education

  • SAP Graduate Certificate

CMU notes their current tuition rates as follows. As seen below, it is extremely advantageous for students who live in Michigan to attend CMU simply based on cost alone. Michigan residents can earn their degree for far less money than out-of-state residents, and the “in-state” resident tuition rates are extremely competitive if not much less than other colleges and universities in the country.

UNDERGRADUATE
Michigan Resident:     $339 per credit
Out-of-State Resident: $789 per credit
MASTER’S/SPECIALIST
Michigan Resident:     $434 per credit
Out-of-State Resident: $766 per credit
DOCTORAL
Michigan Resident:     $508 per credit
Out-of-State Resident  $850 per credit
